I remember taking a helicopter flight to Catalina. I saw how different the world looks from a different perspective; new solutions become visible just like the dolphins below. Finally, I had the courage to give my 30-day notice to move, knowing that my new place would show up by the end of the month.
My friend, Lauren, decided to climb Mt. Whitney for her 50th birthday. She learned that there are times when trying to go back
looks just as scary as going forward so it’s best to just keep moving forward. She also learned something important about herself, that she was willing to stay behind to help a friend when needed. Since her climb, she campaigned for, won and completed a term as a Board Member for the Toastmasters International Board of Directors.

After my dad died of a stroke in 2002, I needed to start exercising and take better care of myself since strokes are one of my birth-family's big health issues. So I went from not exercise at all to completing a 13.1 mile half-marathon walk in Hawaii in only 4 months. I trained diligently so I could survive the marathon. Then it took me five hours to finish the walk, but I didn't give up like a lot of others did! By the time I reached the halfway point, I'd come too far and done too much work to quit before reaching the finish line. I also helped two young women on the American Stroke Association LA training team whose dads had also had strokes. I gave them some of the funds I'd raised for the ASA above the minimum required to attend the marathon when their fundraising efforts fell short in the final week. Helping them get to the marathon as well made my walk feel even more special. What I learned was that I can truly do anything -- even walk 13.1 miles and raise money for causes -- when I commit to it fully and don't give up!
